Car Alarm Problems

Car alarm that won't turn off

Do you have problems with your car alarm?

This can be a complete disaster if you need your car to travel to work or to get the kids to school. Sometimes it is clear that your car alarm isn’t working and sometimes it is working only too well – it goes off every time you go near the car or it won’t turn off when you try to open and close the car door or lock up.

Your auto alarm is crucial to your overall car security system, so it’s important to get any car alarm problems fixed quickly. In some cars, the ignition switch might not even turn, leaving you stranded and unable to drive anywhere.

What Could Cause Auto Alarm Problems?

Alarm play up for a number of different reasons and it isn’t always easy to figure out which is causing your particular trouble. That’s why you need to call a professional car locksmith service to come to your location, diagnose and fix the problem properly on the spot.

Some of the more common causes of car alarm problems are:

  • Faulty car alarm installation. Even if the alarm company where you originally bought the car alarm is top-notch, every once in awhile a faulty product can sneak through inspection. You may need a faulty part replaced, or the entire alarm system reinstalled.

  • Faulty wiring. All electrical wiring can wear down, break or develop a loose connection over time. Especially in cars, which move at high speeds, bump, bang and even crash into things on occasion. Often times a car alarm problem can be sourced to a car door lock which has been slammed shut once too often, or to a particularly fragile wire in the network. This may seem like a simple problem, but it can be difficult to source and fix unless you have professional training and equipment.

  • Radio wave reprogramming. Car alarms usually communicate with your remote or transponder car key via radio waves, which need to be set to match frequencies like a radio tuner. Every now and then, the radio tuner can reset or go out of sequence and the car security system needs to be freshly synchronized with your remote car key.

  • Transponder car key reprogramming. Your transponder car key works by sending and receiving complicated wireless computer chip messages to your car’s security system. If your transponder car key has received one too many knocks, the chip inside might need to be reprogrammed or replaced by a qualified locksmith.

  • Ignition cylinder failure. If your car alarm goes off every time you try to start the motor, it could be that your ignition switch cylinder needs to be repaired, cleaned out or replaced. Our professional locksmiths can diagnose and fix ignition cylinder problems as easily as any other auto lock cylinder!

  • Remote Car Key Batteries. ItRemote car key batteries may seem obvious, but if your car alarm starts playing up, it could mean your remote car key battery needs to be replaced. It’s not expensive or complicated and they usually have a lifespan of about 1 year, so it’s easy to forget. However, if you leave it too long and don’t replace the battery before it dies completely, then you might need your transponder chip reprogrammed entirely, which is a fair bit more expensive.
